Gölpınar Hittite Dam, which is a part of Alacahöyük Ancient Settlement and one of the oldest known cities of Anatolia, is an important cultural heritage that needs to be protected with its approximately 3500-year history. Bearing this in mind, the project was handled with a sustainable and holistic design approach to rehabilitating the Hittite Dam and its surroundings, providing opportunities for touristic trips and activities, and allowing suitable physical conditions for the excavations and exhibits of the found artifacts.
In this context, the preservation and continuity of the local culture, the provision of space planning that considers the protection-use balance, the conservation of soil and biodiversity, water and basin management, separation of tourism areas and archaeological sites, integration of green energy solutions, energy-efficient building solutions and solutions on waste management presented.
Using building constructions and materials of the region, the sustainability of local characteristics and promotion of cultural belonging at the international level have been ensured simultaneously.
Structures of different scales and functions, including a research center for the Alacahöyük excavations, an information and indoor exhibition center, a camping area for students, a study area and a dining hall, a restaurant where Hittite meals will be served for visitors and a sales unit for local products and souvenirs have been designed.
